PENGUINS OF THE WORLD


There are three penguins in the Pygoscelis genus,
the Chinstrap, the Adelie and the Gentoo

CHINSTRAP PENGUIN
(also known as Bearded Penguin)
(Pygoscelis antarctica)

 

New Zealand SG 1577, issued in 1990 and South Georgia SG 294 issued in 1999

The Chinstrap penguin is found in circumpolar seas and adjacent islands.
 It is one of the smaller penguins and is about 70 cms tall and weighs 4,5 kgs.
 It is extremely numerous, and estimates of 15 million have been made.

 with the Chinstrap Penguin as part postage.
