LITTLE PENGUIN
(Also called Little Blue Penguin)
(Eudyptula minor)

One of the set of twelve penguin stamps issued
jointly by New Zealand and Ross Dependency in 2001

As the name implies, this is the smallest of the penguins, standing 35 cm tall.
They are found in southern Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

There are two main sub-species of the Yellow-eyed Penguin,
 with the White-flippered Penguin mainly found in New Zealand.
 There are probably around 1 million penguins in total.
