| The largest living bird - the male is up to 2 m in height. The bird is flightless but can run at speeds up to 60 km/hr and is found throughout Africa (and previously in Syria and Arabia). Common in Southern Africa and occurs in flocks of up to 40 birds. It lays eggs in clutches of up to 20 and eats grass, berries, seeds, insects and small reptiles. The nest is a 3 m scrape in the ground. | |
