FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATER

(Puffinus carneipes)

Also known as Pale-footed Shearwater

A large bird (45 cm) with a heavy build. It is found in the South Indian and South Pacific Oceans and breeds on islands of Saint Paul, Lord Howe and off Australia and New Zealand. A rare but regular visitor to the south eastern waters of SA. Accompanies the sardine run off Natal, eating fish, squid and crustaceans.
