A large bird (46 cm to 50 cm) with long tail streamers. It is found in the tropical Indian and Pacific oceans, and breeds on the oceanic islands. A very rare vagrant to the South coast of South Africa, occasionally blown inland. It lives off fish (especially flying fish) and squid
