| A medium sized bird (about 54cm), a very common resident of Southern Africa. Also found throughout the rest of the world. It is found in open grasslands and is highly gregarious and feeds on insects disturbed by grazing mammals. The nest is a small platform of reeds in a tree or a reed bed. It mixes with other herons. | ||
