GREEN-BACKED HERON


A smallish heron (about 40cm), an uncommon resident of Africa south of the Sahara. Also found in Asia, Australia, Indian and Pacific Oceans and South America. It lives in densely vegetated rivers and lakes. A solitary bird, it lives off fish and insects. The nest is a flimsy platform of sticks in trees or bushes
