| A medium sized bird (about 56 cm) found in Africa, Madagascar, Eurasia and America. In South Africa it is a common bird found in most of the region except for the dry west areas. It is found in marshes and swamps and lives off a variety of food including fish, frogs and other reptiles. Normally a solitary bird it does roost communally. | |
