A large bird (about 86 cm) found in most of Africa south of the Sahara, in tropical Asia and the Philippines. In Southern Africa it is an uncommon resident confined to the higher rainfall areas in the north and east. It is a solitary bird found in wooded areas adjacent waterways. The main diet is large insects and crabs.
