A large bird (about 80cm), an uncommon resident to the eastern inland parts of South Africa. It inhabits high grassveld or cultivated lands and feeds off insects, snails, worms and small mammals. Its nest is a platform of sticks about 50cm built on cliff ledges or in riverine gorges. It is very gregarious.
