A largish bird (about 76cm), a very common resident in Africa South of the Sahara, and in South Africa on the Eastern parts. It inhabits open grasslands, savannas, large gardens etc, living mainly off insects, spiders, snails by probing with long bill on the ground. It has a loud raucous cry.
