A fairly large duck (75cm) found in Africa South of the Sahara, Madagascar, Tropical Asia and South America. In Southern Africa it is common in the north eastern parts. The bird lives in shallow pans and flood plains generally with clear water. It mainly lives off water plants and grain crops.
