A small goose (about 35cm), uncommon to rare, generally found in the north and east of Southern Africa, and south of the Sahara and Madagascar elsewhere. It is generally found in clear tropical and subtropical waters and lives off seeds of water-lilies and other water plants. The nest is usually a hole in a tree.
