A medium to large bird (54 cm to 60 cm) which breeds in the Holarctic to Indonesia. In southern Africa it is a rare but regular non breeding migrant to the east and north east. A solitary bird which hunts from the perch or from the ground, it lives off wasp larvae and other insects
