A very large vulture (98 cm to 105 cm) found throughout Africa south of the Sahara, NW Africa, Arabia and Israel. In southern Africa it is uncommon and is found in the north and is confined to the game reserves. It is the dominant vulture at a carcass and tears into the tougher skin and ligaments.
