A medium sized vulture (about 80 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is found in Botswana, parts of Namibia, Zimbabwe and eastern regions. It is an uncommon resident, living off carrion. It is one of the first vultures to arrive at the carcass, but cannot compete with the larger vultures.
