A medium sized bird (about 71 cm to 76 cm) found in most of Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is an uncommon resident in the north and east, although fairly common in Zimbabwe. It is a solitary bird found in woodland and savannah, living off snakes and also the Nile Monitor and other lizards.
