A medium harrier (44 cm to 49 cm) found in Africa from South Africa to the Sudan. In southern Africa it is a common resident throughout except for the drier west. The habitat is marshes, vleis and adjacent grasslands. It is either solitary or in pairs and hunts small rodents and birds.
