A small bird (23 cm to 27 cm) found in Africa from the Cape to Zaire and Ethiopia. In southern Africa it is an uncommon resident found in the eastern half of the region (excluding Lesotho) and the southern coastal belt. It inhabits woodland, montane and riverine forests and exotic plantations. It lives off small birds up to 40 grammes in mass.
