A medium bird (45 cm) found discontinuously in Africa from south west Cape to Ethiopia. It is an uncommon localised resident found in the montane forests of southern Cape, Natal and the Transvaal escarpment. It is generally found in pairs (or solitary) and hunts for small rodents, lizards and birds.
