A large buzzard (51 cm to 66 cm) which breeds in se Europe, Asia and N Africa. It is a rare vagrant to Southern Africa, recorded only in Namibia and Natal. It is a solitary bird preferring open woodland, savannah and semi desert. The main food is small mammals.
