A medium bird (55 cm to 60 cm) distributed from the northern parts of southern Africa to Ethiopia. It is a fairly common resident in north western Namibia, eastern Zimbabwe and western Mocambique. It is found in mountainous country and rocky koppies, and mainly lives off snakes and lizards. It has a spectacular aerial courting display.
