A medium bird (48 cm to 52 cm) found throughout Africa, Europe and Asia. It is a common bird with an intra African migrant breeding population in the south west and a non breeding migrant elsewhere. It is often solitary and occurs in semi-arid hilly country. Major food source is birds.
