A smallish bird (about 30 cm) breeding in Siberia, Manchuria and China and migrating to the eastern central parts of southern Africa. It is a very common non breeding migrant in these areas and very rarely overwinters. Inhabits open grassland and lightly wooded country and feeds off insects.
