A medium bird (about 38 cm) which is found in the western parts of the southern parts of Africa. In southern Africa it is mainly found in Namibia and Botswana where it is a common resident. It inhabits scrub thickets and the edges of Kalahari woodland. Found in pairs or coveys up to 20 birds it lives off seeds, grain, shoots etc.
