A small bird ( 16 to 18 cm) widely distributed throughout Africa and Eurasia. In southern Africa it is a common resident found mainly in the south and south east with non breeding birds migrating locally. It inhabits the open grasslands and lightly wooded savannah and lives off seeds, buds, tubers and leaves.
