A small bird ( 16 to 18 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is absent from the drier west and south west but is a common breeding migrant elsewhere. Its habitat is rank grass and borders of vleis. It is gregarious and lives off seeds, shoots, leaves and insects
