A small bird (15cm to 17 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is a fairly common resident confined to the south and eastern parts of the region. It inhabits marshy boggy areas, swamps and vleis. It is a solitary bird, very shy and elusive, living off seeds, insects, snails and spiders.
