A small bird (14 cm to 15 cm) found in Southern Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Sudan. In southern Africa it is found in the south east and in the highlands of Zimbabwe. It is an uncommon resident and inhabits forest edges, tall grass and montane grasslands. It is solitary or in pairs and lives off insects and seeds.
