A small to medium bird (20 cm to 23 cm) which is found in Africa south of the Sahara. In Southern Africa it is an uncommon breeding migrant confined to the eastern parts. It inhabits marshes, edges of vleis and grasslands. It is usually a solitary bird living off insects, molluscs and worms.
