A largish bird ( 51 to 65 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara. It southern Africa it is an uncommon resident found in the higher rainfall areas in the east and north.
 It is a solitary bird inhabiting quiet reaches of streams and rivers.
 It lives off insects, crabs snails, frogs and fish.
