A medium to large bird (52 cm), found in the western parts of South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. It is a very common resident of open dry grassland. It was previously considered a sub-species of the Black Korhaan (R239). It is usually solitary, with the male conspicuous on termite mounds. It eats plants and insects.
