A small bird (about 20 cm), found in Africa south of the Sahara, and everywhere in southern Africa except the dry west. An uncommon nomadic resident, it inhabits bare short grasslands and burnt grass. It is usually found in pairs or small groups and lives off insects, molluscs and seeds.
