A medium bird (30 cm) found in southern Africa and eastern Africa. In southern Africa it is a common resident found throughout the region. It has a wide range of habitats including shorelines of inland waters, wet pastures and tidal flats in bays and lagoons. It eats insects, worms and molluscs
