A largish bird (35 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is found in the eastern and northern parts of the region where it is a locally common resident at the lower altitudes. It inhabits the upland grassveld along streams and rocky slopes. It feeds on insects and grass seed.
