A small to medium bird ( 22 cm) breeding in central Asia to Korea southern Asia to Jordan and Iran. It migrates to southern Asia, Australia and Africa. It is an uncommon migrant found along all the coasts of southern Africa. It inhabits tidal flats, salt pans and estuaries and lives off crustaceans, insects and worms.
