| A medium bird (about 28 cm), which breeds in northern Europe and western USSR, migrating to Africa, Arabia and India. In southern Africa it is scarce migrant confined to the north eastern parts of the region. It inhabits vleis, moist grasslands and streams, and lives off aquatic invertebrates. | |
