A medium bird (53 to 61 cm), breeding on the Antarctic mainland and adjacent islands. It is a very rare non-breeding vagrant to southern African waters. It inhabits the open ocean and is highly gregarious and aggressive in its habits. It feeds on regurgitated fish.
