Previously considered a sub-species of
 [Larus novaehollandiae (hartlaubii)] 

A smallish gull (36 to 38 cm), found along the coast of Namibia and the western Cape. It is a very common resident, inhabiting the seashore and offshore islands. It is highly gregarious and lives off scraps, offal, dead fish and insects.
