A medium bird (32 to 37 cm), found in Africa south of the Sahara and tropical Asia. In southern Africa it is a locally common (uncommon) breeding intra African migrant, found in the northern and eastern areas. It is usually solitary or in pairs and is shy and elusive. It inhabits tall rank grass in vleis and eats insects and spiders.
