A small bird (18 to 20 cm) found in Africa south of the Sahara, Arabia and Socotra. In southern Africa it is a locally common resident, absent from the drier west and south west Cape. It is a solitary bird and inhabits savanna woodland. It hunts from the perch and eats insects and scorpions.
