A medium to large bird (30 to 33 cm), found in Africa, Middle East, India and central Asia. It a locally fairly common non breeding migrant found in central, northern and eastern parts of southern Africa. It is gregarious and inhabits the woodland around larger rivers and vleis. It eats insects.
