SHORT-CLAWED LARK

(Certhilauda chuana or previously Mirafra chauna)

This is a largish bird (19cm), which is endemic to South Africa. It is found in two discrete populations, one in Botswana and one in northern Transvaal. It is an uncommon resident, inhabiting open ground in semi-arid scrub. It is usually solitary and eats insects and grass seeds.
