A smallish to medium bird (24 cm), endemic to South Africa.  It is a common resident over the drier parts of South Africa, inhabiting evergreen forests, parks and gardens. It is usually solitary and eats insects molluscs and spiders.
The distribution map is the combined Olive Thrush / Karoo Thrush distribution.  The Karoo Thrush inhabits the western part of the distribution map given above (generally west of Lesotho)
