A small to medium bird (13 to 15 cm), found in Africa south of the Sahara. It is a locally common resident in South Africa, ranging from the eastern Cape through Natal to the Transvaal, Botswana and Zimbabwe. It inhabits rocky outcrops in woodland and mountain slopes. It is usually solitary. It eats grasshoppers and caterpillars.
