A smallish bird (15 to 18 cms), a near endemic to southern Africa (also found in south western Angola). It is a common resident of the Karoo, but is also found in the other parts of the Cape and Namibia. It inhabits scrubby plateaus and stony hillsides and lives off insects and seeds
