A small bird (11-12 cm), found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is an uncommon breeding migrant, confined to the eastern littoral of Mocambique, and a vagrant further south. It is gregarious at all times, inhabits rank weeds and grass and eats seeds and grains.
