A smallish bird (12 cm), found in Africa south of the Sahara. In southern Africa it is a locally common resident confined to the highveld, Zimbabwe, central Botswana and northern Namibia. It is gregarious at all times, inhabiting moist grasslands. It eats seeds and insects.
