A smallish bird (13 cm), found along the eastern parts of Africa from the Limpopo River to Kenya. It is a common resident in the northern Kruger Park, to Mocambique and Zimbabwe. It inhabits riverine forest, and is usually in pairs. It eats seeds and is host to the Green Widowfinch.
