A medium bird (15 cm (female), 30 cm (breeding male)), distributed from the eastern Transvaal to Kenya. It is an uncommon resident of the eastern Transvaal, and the extreme northern and eastern parts of the region. It inhabits savanna in small flocks and eats seeds.
